The future of Victor Lindelof at Manchester United is uncertain, and his call-up to the national team has also been affected.
With Leny Yoro returning from injury, Lindelof will be Manchester United’s fifth-choice center-back. Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, and Matthijs de Ligt are ahead of him in Erik ten Hag’s pecking order.
However, Lindelof’s omission from the Sweden squad for the upcoming Nations League matches against Azerbaijan and Estonia is not a punishment for his diminished role at Man United. Instead, an injury kept him out of Ten Hag’s squad in the 1-2 defeat to Brighton.

Head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson told Fotbollskanalen: “(Emil) Forsberg, (Albin) Ekdal, (Robin) Olsen, and Lindelof are all sidelined due to injuries. They are very disappointed and want to do everything to be here. This shows their attitude. Now, I’m curious to see who will step up in their absence.”
Tomasson chose to keep Lindelof as captain when he took over the Sweden national team a few months ago. However, if Lindelof remains a bench player at Manchester United, Tomasson may reconsider his role as captain.
